This week saw the transition of all Oxford Area Radio System users to the Butler Regional Interoperable Communications System.  Careful planning and coordination between BRICS staff, vendors and local officials resulted in a smooth transition for two dispatch centers, three law enforcement agencies, two fire/EMS departments, one EMS agency, one hospital ER and two public works groups.

The first agency to completely join the system was the College Corner Fire Department on Wednesday morning, followed shortly thereafter by the Oxford Fire Department and the Miami University Police.

Despite minor setbacks (a working structure fire during fire user training and a crime in progress during OPD supervisor training), we were surprised and pleased by the flexibility of each agency.  We ended up ahead of schedule, finishing law enforcement on Thursday and public works today.

The BRICS voice system now supports (in order of deployment):

  • College Corner Fire Department
  • Oxford Fire Department
  • McCullough-Hyde Hospital ER
  • Miami University Police
  • Oxford Police Department
  • Oxford Township Police Department
  • Oxford Service Department
  • Miami University Physical Facilities
  • Miami University EMS
