Our radio system upgrade is underway, and there are some important points that all BCSO staff who use radios should be aware of.
The radio consoles at 9COM, the Warrants Post, and in Jail Control switched to a reduced level of functionality yesterday (along with all other dispatch centers). This will last through Monday.
- 9COM will only have access to the main law and fire dispatch talkgroups. The Warrants Post will only have access to the Inquiry talkgroup. The jail control room will only have access to the jail control talkgroup.
- Dispatchers will not be able to see who is talking (the radio alias). Please diligently use your full proper identifier on the radio (e.g. 9 Paul 21).
- All emergency alarms for the whole county will be coming to 9COM on a special temporary receiver. They’ll be reaching out to the jail and other dispatch centers to let them know about alarms.
All radio users in the county will be switching to their new talkgroups on Thursday the 11th at particular times. BRICS support staff will notify dispatchers and control room staff when it is OK to switch, and they will make an announcement to users over the old talkgroup to do so.
- All Butler County jail radio users will be switching at around 10:00 AMfrom Zone 4 to their new talkgroup in Zone C-7, labeled “09 BCJ CTL”.
- All Court Security users will be switching at around 10:00 AMfrom Zone 4 to their new talkgroup in Zone C-5, labeled “09 GSC CTL”.
- All Road Patrol and other users (e.g. Fairfield Twp PD, New Miami PD) who normally communicate with the dispatcher on SO LE WEST will switch at around 11:30 AM to the new talkgroup in Zone A-1, labeled “09-9 ZULU”.
- All Warrants Unit and other users who normally communicate on SO INQUIRY will switch at around 11:30 AM to the new talkgroup in Zone A-2, labeled “09-9L INQR”.
- All Hamilton Police users who normally communicate with the dispatcher on SO LE CENT will switch at around 11:30 AM to the new talkgroup in Zone A-1, labeled “09-9 TANGO”.
- All Hamilton Fire Dept users who normally communicate with the dispatcher on SO FD CENT will switch at around 11:30 AM to the new talkgroup in Zone A-1, labeled “09-9 BRAVO”.
- All other fire and EMS users who normally communicate with the dispatcher on SO FD WEST will switch at around 11:30 AM to the new talkgroup in Zone A-1, labeled “09-9 ALPHA”.
Our radio use will be restricted at times throughout this period due to the limited availability of radio frequencies, which could result in busy signals if too many talkgroups are active at any one time.
- Now through Monday, 9COM dispatchers will be assigning fewer incidents to OPS, TAC and fireground talkgroups unless it is absolutely necessary.
- On Wednesday and Thursday in particular, all users should keep transmissions brief. Whenever possible, using the MDT for additional details is encouraged.
- For particular time periods before and after the switch on Thursday, all main talkgroups will be restricted to emergency traffic only.
Please pay close attention to announcements from dispatchers and control room staff. Thank you for your patience while we get through this project. If you have any radio issues or questions, open a support ticket (https://brics.butlersheriff.org/support/) or call BRICS Support staff at 785-1299.
