A training exercise organized by the Fairfield Fire Department tested the response of several Butler and Hamilton County agencies to a shooting with numerous casualties at the Fairfield High School.
The BRICS office has been temporarily relocated to the first floor of the Court Street Jail facility in Hamilton. Radios needing service will need to be dropped off at this new location.
The BRICS 800MHz voice system was successfully upgraded to version 7.7 last month. The upgrade keeps our system current with the latest radio network technologies. Teams from Motorola and Mobilcomm spent two weeks with long days and nights at our master site during this process.
This week and next, engineering teams from Motorola and Mobilcomm will be working to upgrade the BRICS 800MHz voice system from Astro 25 release 7.5 to 7.7.
A radio dealer from the Cincinnati area has offered to provide Kenwood test units to the Communications Division of the Butler County Sheriff's Office. Kenwood Corporation, a manufacturer of portable and mobile radios, began offering a Project 25 compliant 700-800MHz product in December. The performance of the new Kenwood radios will be evaluated by BRICS technicians.
Radio towers on the BRICS 800MHz voice system receive a thorough yearly preventative maintenance check. During this process, each individual tower is taken out of service for several hours so that site equipment can be checked and calibrated.
