Using Your Radio on Conventional Channels
Your XTS 5000, 2500 and 1500 portable radio will display an icon to indicate you are operating in simplex mode, as shown below. The same icon displays on the XTL 5000 mobile radio.
If you are on a conventional channel and see that icon, you are communicating directly from radio to radio. The name of the channel should also include a “D” at the end, meaning “direct.” If the icon is not displayed, your transmission is attempting to pass through a repeater. Always verify whether you are operating on the proper channel – direct/simplex or repeated. Both you and the person or people you are trying to communicate with must select the same channel.
